How to tie a Bowline knot

The bowline knot is used to make a loop at the end of a rope or to tie a rope to a ring or a post. One of the advantages with the bowline knot is that it can be undone while under load.

  1. With the working end of the rope, rotate the rope over the standing part, so the working end is pushed over the standing part and face the end of the rope upwards.
  2. Bring the working end of the rope through the loop that was just created and under the standing part.
  3. Bring the working end of the rope through the loop again and tighten the knot by pulling on the standing part and the working end of the rope.
